The MIX of Mystical And Western = Ayurceutical™

The legacy to the West from the East is, surely, the mysticism of the Veda -- the ancient philosophical writings that launched the concept of spirituality onto a very physical planet where "survival" was the goal and God was never next door.

The word "Veda" means knowledge. The depth of "modern science" in the Veda never fails to amaze a westerner, yet the hope for spiritual salvation from the ancient writings never fails to disappoint.

There are about as many histories of "Veda" as their are authors -- so don't look for precise agreement here.

Let's simply say that man in the West confronted wild animals and threats to his survival that could be measured in a ten foot trail with a wolf at the turn; while our brothers in the East faced deserts and slow starvation.

It's an odd quirk of fate that those to face slow starvation have time to think about their fate while those who face an angry mountain lion have only split seconds to hope their feet react without thought. The old pictures from the East show people in Yoga postures. The old pictures from the West show cowboys with guns!

Thinking about your fate gave you time to create the Veda. Reacting in a split second to avoid a wolf gave you the incentive to invent guns and bombs that supposedly eliminated human threats to survival.

In this grand potage of a beginning of our stew, skip forward a few millennia to NOW, that wonderful place to be. Now we have the continuation of a materialistic west, but one that has developed NEW tools and smarts to tame to universe while the east still rides on the ancient heritage of wisdom that kept those rice farmers in hope for salvation -- a hope that has virtually disappeared in the west -- other than in chemicals certainly not excluding cocaine.

Into the West came the "man-is-an-animal" druggists with pastes and creams to treat your pimples. The East has, long ago, found the concentrated foods, in the form of herbs, that nourished your skin so the body does the healing.

The science of the west is based on chemicals and mathematics and has brought us one of the worst educational systems on the planet. The science of the East started with Mysticism and evolved into the world's largest democracy -- the only country that has never invaded a neighbor or been invaded!

The east has, by now, been corrupted by ice cream, Coca-Cola and Western dress. The west is beginning now to see some wisdom in herbs and move away from toxic drugs. Not only has the west been corrupted, generally, but allopathic medicine has taken a particularly hard hit from the corruption within the psychiatry realm.

The panel of experts for the session on "Psychotropic Drug Use During Pregnancy" was comprised entirely of psychiatrists with financial ties to drug makers. The Mass General psychiatry academy itself is funded by six drug makers, including two antidepressant makers. These relationships were disclosed. Charles Nemeroff, one of the nation's most prominent psychiatrists, edits the journal Neuropsychopharmacology, which this month favorably reviewed a controversial new treatment for depression.

The link below will open a beautiful Web Site.  Mr. C. Rajagopalachari (Rajaji) was the first Governor General of India, when we got independence. 

He was one of the greatest Indians who worked very closely with Gandhi in the freedom struggle.  He was an intellectual, eminent lawyer, poet, author, Sanskrit scholar, political leader, great administrator and a very highly evolved spiritual person. 

Incidentally he is an "Ayyangar" like me -- and is remotely connected to the family tree of my father.  My father used to be the official translator on the dais -- for his political speeches during his campaigns as the founder of a political party during 1950 - 1965 ..... translating his speeches from English to Telugu .... a local language in the state of Andhra.  This is just a background that has no great significance for our purpose.
